Dan Donohue and Ray Porter play extras on a Hollywood film set in rural Ireland in Stones in His Pockets. Written by Marie Jones and directed by John Plumpis, Donohue and Porter also portray thirteen other characters in a hilarious clash of cultures that pits harsh reality against Hollywood endings.

All 1 pm performances are indoors at Grizzly Peak Winery. Wednesdays—Sundays, July 17—August 4. $35. The play runs two hours.

Meet the Artists

Dan Donohue (Jake Quinn, plus others)

Dan is grateful to be back in Ashland where he performed in more than 30 productions in 12 seasons at The Oregon Shakespeare Festival playing roles such as “Mark Antony”, “Mercutio”, “Henry V”, “Iago”, “Dvornichek” in Rough Crossing, “Hamlet” and “Richard III.” Dan played “Scar” in The Lion King, directed by Julie Taymor, which he performed over 1700 times on Broadway and in the national tour. Regional credits include Yale Repertory Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Geffen Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, and others. Television credits include recurring roles in For All Mankind, LongmireDamnationAquariusStrange Angel, The Last Tycoon, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Donohue was an inaugural recipient of the Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship.

Ray Porter (Charlie Conlon, plus others)

In 15 seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ray played a variety of roles including Valere in La Bête, both Antipholus twins in Comedy of Errors, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Kent in King Lear, Mephistopheles in Dr. Faustus and many others. Most recently he was Hickman in Rebel Moon on Netflix. Other film credits are Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Runaways, Almost Famous, and Argo, among others. A partial list of television credits include 9-1-1, Sons of Anarchy, CSI, Justified, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Shameless, The Close, Monk, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Naomi. A multiple award winning audiobook narrator, he has narrated over 500 titles. He plays approximately 14 different characters in the full cast Audible production of Sandman by Neil Gaiman. He has also voiced characters in video games such as Elder Scrolls and World of Warcraft. He is terribly excited to return to Ashland and to work with Rogue Theater Company.

John Plumpis (Director)

Directing: After Happily Ever After, a new musical, Upstairs at The Players Theatre, NYC.  For NYC’s The Actors Company Theatre: Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Spinning Into Butter, The Magistrate, Come Blow Your Horn, I’ll Leave it to You, Toys in the Attic, The Dock Brief, If Men Played Cards as Women Do. Acting: National companies of The Lion King, where he met his dear friend Dan Donohue; Barrymore starring Christopher Plummer (also the 2011 film); Laughter on the 23rd Floor. Off-Broadway: I Can Get It For You Wholesale, starring Santino Fontana at NYC’s Classic Stage Company. Regional: Denver Center. Yale Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, Cincinnati Playhouse, among many others. With NYC’s The Actors Company Theatre he participated in 31 productions as actor or director. His recent television appearances include CBS’s Blue Bloods, Apple TV’s Little America, and HBO’s The Deuce. Teaching: He is a frequent guest lecturer at colleges and universities, conducting master classes at over 50 institutions, and has taught multiple semesters at Montclair State University.  Some of his thoughts on theatre have been published.

Marie Jones (Playwright)

Marie’s plays have toured extensively throughout the world, including
the former Soviet Union, Germany, coast to coast America, Canada, Britain and Ireland. Her plays include an adaptation of Gogol’s The Government Inspector, which toured in Britain and Ireland, A Night in November (London, Glasgow, New York and three tours of Ireland), Marie also starred in and wrote Women on the Verge of HRT (Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow and London’s West End Vaudeville Theatre).  Dancing Shoes, the story of George Best, co-written with Martin Lynch and the Miami Show Band Story also co-written with Martin Lynch both premiered at the Grand Opera House and went on to tour the UK and Ireland. Stones in His Pockets, which toured Ireland prior to the Dublin Theatre Festival culminating in a four-year run-in London’s West End, gaining many wards including the Lawrence Oliver Award for Best New Comedy and the Evening Standard award for best new Play. Her Broadway debut of Stones in His Pockets gained  3 Tony nominations and won the American Drama Critics award.  Marie’s plays have been translated into 38 languages. Night in November. ‘Fly Me to The Moon’ and Stones  in His Pockets are currently playing in most countries in Scandinavia, also in Poland Hungary and Croatia. She has been awarded two honary doctorates of literature from Queens University and the University of Ulster. She has also been awarded an OBE..(Order of the British Empire) 

Lili Fuller (Choreographer)

Lili is a choreographer, director, writer, and actor. She was the assistant director, choreographer, and intimacy coordinator for RTC’s Heisenberg. She has worked with the Geffen Playhouse, Rogue Machine Theatre, Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, ETC Theatre Company, The Pico Playhouse, Gay Men’s Chorus of LA, Varsity Vocals, and Musical Theatre Repertory, among others, and has choreographed over 30 plays and musicals for the USC School of Dramatic Arts. Her work has been featured on the stages of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Royce Hall, and the Beacon Theatre. Lili was the co-founder and artistic director of the Ovation winning Boom Kat Dance Theatre and has developed two TV series with her husband, Joe Sofranko, for FOX and Netflix. lilifuller.com
